About Melbourne - Engine Room Prayer
Inspired by Charles Spurgeon's renowned "Engine Room," the prayer gatherings at City on a Hill Melbourne serve as a clear, visible, and regular expression of our corporate dependence on God for His mission in our world, our city, and our church.
When visitors would visit Spurgeon’s church and would ask for the secret to his success, he would often lead them to a basement prayer room where hundreds of church members were consistently on their knees, interceding for the ministry. He would then declare, "Here is the powerhouse of this church!"
We gather to pray as Jesus taught us, allowing for various forms and styles, always submitting to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Our desire is to listen for what the Spirit and the Son are praying to the Father, and join in their intercession for ourselves, our church, our city, and our world.
Engine Room Schedule:
- Morning Prayer: 6:30-7:15am, Tuesdays
- Midday Prayer: 12:00-12:30pm, Wednesdays
- Evening Prayer: 8:00-8:45pm, Thursdays
