EQUIP 2026

Equip is year-long discipleship program at City on a Hill: Melbourne East that focuses on equipping you with God’s grace and fuelling your spiritual growth. As a participant, you'll embark on a journey to deepen your understanding of what it means to know Jesus and make Jesus known, while empowering others to do the same.

With 8 training sessions each term on Tuesday nights, your heart will be enlarged, your head will be engaged, and your hands will be equipped to love and serve both God and neighbour.

  • Begins Tuesday, 10th February
  • Registrations close 8th February
  • Early Bird Pricing ends 13th January

NEW FOR 2026:
Individual unit registration available (if space available!).

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

1. TRAINING UNITS
TUESDAY NIGHTS 7pm - 930pm

Key to Equip is a series of four training units designed to equip you as a disciple of Christ with the grace of God, and to grow in your love for God and neighbour. Each week will involved classroom teaching, practical application, discussion, and times of prayer and worship.

  1. Unit 1: The Story of Grace  (8 weeks)
    10 Feb - 31 March
The history of the world is the story of God’s grace and redemption. It’s the story of the gospel - the good news of Jesus Christ. It’s His story, and it’s our story. In this first unit you’ll be equipped to know God’s unfolding story, and how we’re changed by grace in this story to be more like Jesus.

  2. Unit 2: The Words of Grace  (8 Weeks)
    28 Apr - 16 Jun

We believe that the Bible is God's very words to us. But it is also an ancient document, written at a particular time to particular people in a particular context for particular reasons. Therefore, it's critical for Christians to have a biblical approach to understanding Scripture, so they can both handle God's Word rightly for themselves and for others. This unit provides the foundation for how we should approach and understand Scripture, and equips you with practical tools so that you can better understand God's Word for yourself, and help others do the same.

  3. Unit 3: The Doctrines of Grace (8 Weeks)
    28 July - 15 Sep

A critical question that all Christians must deal with is the essential nature of grace - how gracious is God’s grace? How we answer this question significantly shapes how our understanding of who God is and His glory, our relationship with him, and his mission in the world. In this unit we’ll be exploring what Scripture says about the graciousness of grace, and you’ll be equipped to have a deeper understanding of the character of God, what he has done, and how he is working in the world and in his people.

  4. Unit 4: The Life of Grace  (8 Weeks)
    6 Oct - 1 Dec

The grace of God isn’t confined to a one off moment of conversion, or merely for the forgiveness of sin. It transforms every aspect of life. In this unit you’ll be equipped to apply the gospel to all aspects of life - our sufferings & sins; faith & work; evangelism, apologetics, & mission.

2. PRAYER GROUPS
Equip is about personal growth and transformation. Christian growth is not merely an individual endeavour or only about information, but happens through your relationship with God in the context of Christian community.

Each week we'll spend time in dedicated prayer groups where you'll be able to reflect on and apply the content to yourself and one another, pray for one another, and build one another up.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Equip is designed to be a full year commitment, and we ask that you prioritise this commitment and attendance. However, we realise that it can be hard to commit to the full year program, so have also made it possible to sign up for individual units if places are available.

Priority is given to those registering for the full year, or continuing after completing individual units.

FAQ

Can I pick and choose the units I come to, or do I need to attend them all?
Equip is designed to be a unified, year-long program, and you will get the most out of it if you are able to attend for the full year. However, if spaces are available, it is possible to register for individual units. Due to limited venue capacity, please ensure that you can commit to attending at least 80% of the sessions.

Do I need to be in a Gospel Community to do Equip?
Equip is not intended to replace your Gospel Community, but you do not need to be in a Gospel Community in order to do Equip. We recognise that for some people it’s not possible to do both at the same time (for a variety of reasons), or there isn’t currently a suitable Gospel Community available for you. Whatever you’re signing up for this year, we ask that you fully commit to it - whether it’s Equip, a Gospel Community, or both!

Will there be homework?!
Each week there'll be reflection questions to complete in your own time. The books provided will also greatly support the content throughout the course, and relevant chapters can be read prior to the sessions. You're encouraged to do these for your personal benefit, and to help group discussions, but there isn't a requirement for these to be completed. Additional resources will also be available if you'd like to explore the topics further.

I’m part of a different church, not City on a Hill: Melbourne East - can I still do Equip?
As space is limited, Equip is primarily for those who are actively part of City on a Hill: Melbourne East. If you attend another church, you can still register but may be placed on a waiting list and offered a place if spaces are still available.

Is there an online option available?
At this stage, Equip training sessions will only be run in person at the Melbourne East office.

Is Equip suitable for my unbelieving friends to attend?
Equip is designed those who are already Christian, and starts with the assumption that each participant is committed to following Jesus and believes that the Bible is the Word of God. For those interested in exploring more about Christianity, bring them along to an Explaining Christianity course instead!
